Portrait Collage

Project 3:  for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students

A portrait is defined as: a pictorial representation of a person, usually of the face.
A collage is defined as: an artistic composition made of various materials.

You will need scissors and paper items, background paper and glue is optional.

Step 1:  Collect imagery
Make sure nobody in your house is still using or needs the items you are going to use.

  • Look at old magazines, catalogs, junk mail, finished cereal boxes, etc.
  • Cut out pieces of facial features such as eyes, nose, mouth, ear, hair.
Each facial feature can be an actual image of that part, for example an eye could be a human eye, a cartoon eye, an animal eye, or something could be used to resemble the shape of an eye.
  • Cut out additional accessories or items that could be used in your artwork. Examples: jewelry, hat, bow,  or something to create a background wall or decorative frame

Step 2: Create your collage
Find a flat surface to work on.  Arrange your cut out pieces to create a portrait.
Remember, more details will enhance (improve) your artwork, so include those additional items like earrings or a mustache.
Examples:

Step 3: Take a Picture
Snap a picture of your portrait collage and email it to me.

I can't wait to see what you create!
