Birds in a Tree

1st grade students assembled an art project showing birds sitting on tree branches that represent how two primary colors create a secondary color.

First students cut and glued on brown construction paper for their tree. Next they cut out primary and secondary colored circles and then drew on the eyebrows and eyes using a black crayon.  Students then glued the circles on their branches to show how red and blue make purple, blue and yellow make green, and yellow and red make orange.  To complete their artwork students added triangle top feathers and beaks to their birds, along with green leaves for their trees.
