Color Wheel Eyes: A Fun Color Theory Art Lesson for 5th Grade

Looking for an engaging way to teach color theory and the color wheel in ART?

This Color Wheel Eyes art project helps students learn the proper organization of the color wheel while creating a unique eye-themed artwork. Students review primary colors, secondary colors, and intermediate colors while practicing measuring, painting, cutting, and construction skills.

5th graders created color wheel eyeballs!

Students began the lesson by completing a color wheel worksheet to review the proper organization of the color wheel and identify primary, secondary, and intermediate colors. Next, students used rulers to divide a square sheet of paper into 12 equal sections. After labeling each section, they painted their color wheels, starting with the primary colors, followed by the secondary colors, and finally the intermediate colors.

Once the paint had dried, students transformed their color wheels into creative eye-themed artwork. A large white circle became the eyeball, the completed color wheel served as the iris, and a small black circle was added for the pupil. Students then selected a skin-tone paper for the eyelid and finished their projects by adding eyelashes and details.

 

 

The finished Color Wheel Eyes project provided a fun and engaging way to reinforce color theory concepts while creating a colorful and unique piece of artwork.
