Welcome Back!

Hello Jayhawks!  My name is Mrs. Pearce and I am thrilled to be your art teacher at Jamestown Elementary within the Hazelwood School District.  

As we begin the 2014-2015 school year, I wanted to welcome you and your family to my art blog.  This is where I will post pictures and brief descriptions of what each grade level is working on throughout the school year. 

Below are my Art Room Expectations.  We will discuss these in depth during the first couple days of class, reviewing them throughout the year as needed.

Window Flowers

3rd grade students created overlapping window flowers.  After decorating colored construction paper, students traced and cut out flowers, stems and leaves.  They assembled a window by gluing a vertical and a horizontal black strip onto a white piece of paper, then centering that onto a larger sheet of blue paper.  Brown rectangular paper was added for the flowers box with overlapping flowers glued on to complete their project.

Suns!

Kindergartners created bright hanging suns!  First they rubbed orange crayons over yellow paper to add texture.  Then students cut this paper into strips and glued them onto a yellow circle for the sun’s rays. A small black circle was cut for sunglasses and students added a smile using crayon to complete the face.  A piece of yarn was taped in the middle before everything was glued together.

Fantasy Seascape

4th grade students ended their year by creating a fantasy seascape project.  After drawing a basic fish shape, students had to decide on a theme for their fish and its surroundings.  Then using construction paper, students assembled plants and objects onto their sponge painted backgrounds to complete their fictional design.

Value Frogs

2nd graders completed a frog drawing, then demonstrated their understanding of color value (the lightness and darkness of a color) by using different values of green crayons to finish their project.
