Caterpillars

After watching the animated version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle; kindergartens filled their papers with drawings of various types of food for their caterpillar to eat.  Then using balloons dipped in paint, students pressed connecting green circles across their papers.  After the paint dried, students then added facial feathers, hair and numerous legs to complete their caterpillar artwork.

Chalk Art

5th graders created asymmetrical artwork by first drawing an object, or scene off centered onto black paper.  Then using glue, they outline all their pencil marks.  Once the glue dried, students colored their papers using chalk.  Messy but fun!

Cherry Blossom Branches

2nd graders created Japanese cherry blossom branches for Mother’s Day.  After drawing their tree branch and adding a green background; students dipped the bottoms of soda bottles into pink paint to add the beautiful petals.

Crayon Resistant Art

1st grade students created crayon resistant artwork to practice filling in an entire area with color.  They began by tracing a flower with circles and then used light pressure to color these areas solid.  To assess their coloring skills, students then painted over their entire paper with blue watercolor paint to see if any scribbled marks remained.

Spring Sheep and Rabbits

3rd graders focused on painting the backgrounds of their spring sheep and rabbit drawings using brush control to stay within the lines.
